3 Ways to be a better Baker

Hello all! I love baking and if you do too, here are 3 tips to help you be a better baker!

If you have any baking questions for me, feel free to ask in the comments.

1. Always use room temperature ingredients unless otherwise told by the recipe you are using.
This a very important step in the baking process. Most recipes such as cakes and cupcakes call for the creaming method. This is when you cream together the fat (butter most likely) and the sugar(s) together until the mixture is light and fluffy. This ensures that whatever you are baking comes out light and airy with a soft crumb.

Other ingredients include eggs and milk. (Or any other dairy type for that matter).

Its also good to make sure that all of your ingredients are at the same temperature. If you put something cold into something super warm, it just won’t work.

Basically, bringing your ingredients to room temperature help them incorporate with the thing that you’re making better.

2. Use quality bakeare

If your really into baking, it’s worth investing in quality bakeware. Look for metal or glass when buying, because these will most likely keep for years. Not the cheap stuff that won’t last you a month. Here is some of the basic bakeware you’ll need in your career :

Muffin/ cupcake tins

Pie plate

Cake tins (at least two is the best option)

cookie sheets

baking mats/ parchment paper

loaf tin

square baking pans

cooling racks

kitchen scale

food coloring

Cake decorating:

piping bags

piping tips/ nozzles

cake turntable

cake plate

offset spatula

Foil cake board

Here are some links in case you want to start buying . Some are less expensive than others, but it depends on what you’re looking for and how much money you are willing to spend.

3. Go through each step of the recipe carefully

Baking is an exact science, and although it’s not difficult, it’s important to go through the recipe carefully so you dont make a mistake. It’s always good to read the whole recipe through the first time so you know if you have all your ingredients and you understand the recipe. It would be terrible to want to make muffins only to realize you don’t have a crucial ingredient like eggs or sugar.

So there you have it!! Three ways to be a better baker. I hope this helped!!

  1. I just launched a home-based bakery, and I didn’t think about how much of a difference muffin pans would make! I’d been using a fairly thin, cheap metal one, and I just recently invested in a thicker metal pan with ridged bottoms. It’s awesome.

  2. These are great tips! I haven’t been baking for very long, and I’m already guilty of not reading recipes all the way through. I definitely need to start doing that! I love your blog, by the way!

  3. Speaking of newspapers, anyone read the cover story of The Weekend Australian Magazine?Quite perplexing really. Confirms in my mind what many have long suspected – that many in Israel act with a se-etrighleousnfss that is dragging the rest of the world into that conflict.Support this comment 0
